About Me

Awamba Tanefo Alex Valdes — Independent Researcher & Biodiversity Conservation Practitioner.

My Mission & Vision

Dedicated to Science-Based Conservation & Local Empowerment

I am an independent researcher and biodiversity conservation practitioner with five years of dedicated experience in wildlife conservation across Cameroon. Through EcoWildGlobal, I apply my skills and specialized knowledge to the study, protection, and sustainable management of tropical biodiversity.

Specializing in forest mammals—particularly primates and pangolins—I conduct rigorous ecological monitoring, assess species survival threats, and evaluate interactions between local communities and their surrounding natural environments. My goal is to foster sustainable strategies that merge scientific research with local ecological knowledge.

My Journey

2019 — Early Field Research & Monitoring

Began active field work in Cameroon, developing core skills in reconnaissance surveys (recce), animal sign identification, and forest navigation.

2021 — Advanced Tools & Spatial Analysis

Integrated KoBoToolbox, R, and QGIS into biodiversity data management, enhancing camera trap deployment and spatial mapping accuracy.

2023 — Primate & Pangolin Specialization

Focused research efforts on the Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee (*Pan troglodytes ellioti*) on Mount Nlonako while expanding field team training and camera trap management.

Present — Launch of EcoWildGlobal

Established EcoWildGlobal to deliver evidence-based conservation, capacity building for local teams, and community-centered environmental solutions.

Methodology & Approach

How I Conduct Biodiversity Research

Combining empirical scientific methods with community collaboration to drive measurable conservation results.

1

Environmental & Field Research

Executing systematic camera trapping, recce surveys, wildlife sign identification, and georeferenced data collection in dense forest habitats.

2

Data Analysis & Spatial Modeling

Processing raw field observations using KoBoToolbox, statistical modeling in R, and spatial habitat mapping with QGIS.

3

Implementation & Capacity Building

Translating analytical findings into actionable conservation plans while training local teams in GPS navigation and equipment maintenance.

Field Insights & Environmental Perspectives

Featured thoughts, publication highlights, and research updates directly from active conservation sites across Cameroon.
